King Philip II also aided King Richard in the Third Crusade.  He made the trip and helped win the battle at Acre, which served as the Crusaders’ base for centuries.  After they had secured the city, however, the King of France and King Richard quarreled and could not agree on how to go on.  He ended up going back home and took his whole army back with him.
